Gingergrass is a perennial scented grass, indigenous to southeast Asia.
The oil is obtained by steam distillation of the grass-cymbopogon martini Stapf., var. sofia.
Gingergrass oil has a harsh, terpeny, somewhat fatty, herbal and cumin-like odour with a rose nuance and a woody undertone.
It is used upto 2% in fragrance formulations ,mostly in herbal compositions used in shampoos.
It blends well with cedarwood oil , sandalwood oil, most of the florals and spicy oils such as clove and cinnamon.

The minor components with 0.2-1% are Iso amyl hexanoate, Iso amyl octanoate, Dihydro carvone, Perillaldehyde,etc.
